Destress Methods: Following Covid, I have been able to almost entirely stop coming to campus – and oh man has that helped a lot. My experience with my first advisor was traumatic (literally) and even though I have been working with a new advisor for over a year I still have days where I get triggered and physically re-live my previous experience. Whenever that happens I have learned the best thing to do is “quit the day” and do what feels good for the rest of the day. Sometimes its going to bed at 5pm, sometimes its reading my book, and sometimes its satisfying a craving for mayo. I think the important thing in this is that I make a choice to stop letting GT control my day. I felt controlled and manipulated and powerless for so long that this is the only thing I have found to do that helps.
